a saturday cookout in prospect park with specialty ice cream, whiffle ball, croquet and more!

early in the afternoon chris prepares the grill (and his various sauces and rubs).
it's a big party in the park to celebrate the birthdays of kaci, amy, jeremy, dave and probably one or two other people.
kaci, amy and mary check out the chip selection and determine which chips will go best with which dips.
with friends in from out of town (including amy and donovan), it's a good chance for everyone to catch up (and for donovan to shake up soda bottles for comical effect).
dan, jamie and dave enjoy food and drink...or maybe it's conversation about baseball that they really enjoy. dave predicts the yankees will face the red sox in the alcs.
also, from out of town greg and shawn join the party (which includes sebastian, allison and jeremy).
the dip options are overwhelming! as sarah and chris look on, kip reaches for a piece of kale.
oh, and with amy and donovan kind enough to bring the bocce set from illinois, the day wouldn't be complete without a few games. julie and brendan face off against mary and marc while kris looks on.
after everyone goes through the motion of eating lunch, the seal on the specialty made ice creams is finally broken. kris and donovan open tubs of peanut butter and strawberry. everyone sings kaci's praises for making the most delicious ice cream.
dan, dave and mitch think about ice cream but can't stop talking about baseball. dave predicts the cubs will face the marlins in the nlcs.
shawn can't stop talking about how much she loves her fotolog (well, upon prompting from marc) and jamie makes faces at sebastian, his nephew. or is that sebastian making faces at jamie?
after ice cream cones (and before more park activities), it's time for relaxation.
and, of course, a little more bocce for good measure
and then an intense whiffle ball game begins!
matt swings for the fences (outfield benches?) and paul holds up his invisible catcher's mitt.
both richard and sujan bring their serious game faces to the plate.
chris, the catcher, looks like he was dropped out of 1963. mitch sets up to take a big rip (and, yes, that is the most recent issue of harper's in his pocket). matt thinks he's delivered the best knuckle ball of his life.
proving that everyone plays his own game, brendan and dave showcase two very different pitching styles.
both yu and eric are having more fun than anyone else.
alex is also having fun. he just grimaces because he slammed his shoulder into the outfield fence while going for a long fly ball during the whiffle ball game.
more relaxing.
